Wat Saphan Hin

"To the west of the city of Sukhothai is a forested area where the king has made offerings. In the forest is a large, tall and beautiful viharn which contains an 18-cubit image of the standing Buddha"
Ramkhamhaeng Inscription, 1292

Located on a 200m high hill in the mountains to the north of the walled city, this temple houses the Phra Attharot standing Buddha image mentioned in the Ramkhamhaeng Inscription. A pathway of slate slabs leads to the temple above. The name of the temple "Saphan Hin" means stone bridge and it might have referred to this pathway of slate. The Phra Attharot standing Buddha is 12m tall and is propped up against a wall. In front of the standing Buddha is a small seated Buddha image.
